Harmony Hill, a hidden gem near Ubud
A little slice of paradise: my stay at Harmony Hill
In my quest to find hidden gems in Bali, I’m always drawn to places that feel untouched, grounded, and deeply connected to nature. Places where you can truly slow down, breathe a little deeper, and step away from the noise. That search led me to Harmony Hill, and from the moment I arrived, I knew this was one of those special finds.
Sometimes Bali calls for adventure, cute cafés, and busy streets… and sometimes it gently whispers: slow down. That’s exactly what I was craving when I booked my stay at Harmony Hill. I wanted fresh air, endless greenery and the kind of silence you can actually hear. And honestly? Harmony Hill was everything I hoped for and more.
Located about 25–30 minutes north of Ubud, at an elevation of 500 meters, this vegan nature retreat feels refreshingly different. The air is cooler up here, which means no air conditioning is needed. Instead, natural ventilation and soft jungle breezes create the most restful nights. Waking up to birdsong and mist drifting through the valley quickly became my new favorite morning ritual.
Harmony Hill is lovingly run by Dewa, whose passion for slow, conscious living is felt in every detail of the stay.

The villas
Harmony Hill offers two beautiful villas, both perched on a ridge overlooking lush rice paddies and jungle-covered valleys. No matter which one you choose, nature is always front and center. I stayed at the Jungle Nook (75 euro/night) - which is a bargain for this kind of place!
Harmony Hill Villa (3-bedroom villa)
The main villa is spacious, with 3 bedrooms, impressive 5-meter-high ceilings, 2 bathtubs, a fully equipped kitchen, and a wooden deck opening onto an infinity pool, it strikes the perfect balance between comfort and nature.
The Jungle Nook ( 1-bedroom villa)
Perfect for couples or solo travelers, The Jungle Nook is a cozy yet spacious one-bedroom villa. It features a kitchen, a bathtub with views of the jungle and stars, and a wooden deck overlooking the valley. Falling asleep here to the natural jungle soundscape was incredibly soothing and grounding. I slept like a baby! Thanks to its elevated location, Harmony Hill enjoys cooler temperatures year-round. No buzzing aircon, no artificial cooling, just fresh mountain air flowing through the villas. It made such a difference to my sleep. Nights were cool, calm, and deeply restful, something that can feel rare in tropical destinations. This thoughtful approach is just one example of how sustainability is naturally woven into the Harmony Hill experience.

Fully plant-based & sustainability at heart
Harmony Hill is 100% plant-based, from the food to the bathroom amenities, which I absolutely loved. They have a private chef who prepares nourishing meals using mostly locally sourced ingredients, bought fresh at the morning market.
Breakfast is included in your stay and lunches, dinners, or afternoon teas can be ordered whenever you feel like it. The menu evolves with the seasons, meaning what ends up on your plate truly reflects what the land has to offer at that moment. Any food scraps are composted in the garden, closing the loop in a way that feels thoughtful and intentional.
What really stood out to me is how genuinely committed they are to sustainable living:
Rainwater is captured and filtered for toilets and showers
Drinking water is filtered using ancient ceramic filtering techniques
Nearly all products are locally sourced
The team is actively striving to make the villas plastic-free
They’re also building a lush food garden that already provides jackfruit, durian, passion fruit, chaya (also known as the miracle spinach tree) and many other tropical treasures. It’s inspiring to see sustainability lived, not marketed.

A glimpse into authentic Bali
Harmony Hill is located in a traditional Balinese village that still feels wonderfully untouched. Staying here offered a real glimpse into everyday Balinese life, from early morning sounds to ceremonies happening nearby.
One of my favorite experiences was the complimentary guided walk. We explored the village, wandered through the rice paddies below and ended at a secluded waterfall just a five-minute walk from the property. Simple, authentic and unforgettable.
Jungle Nook
Perfect location between Ubud & Mount Batur
Another big plus is the location. Harmony Hill sits right between Ubud and the Mount Batur UNESCO Geopark. You can explore temples, cafés and culture one day, venture into dramatic volcanic landscapes the next and still come home to complete peace and quiet every evening.
The little extras that make your stay special
At Harmony Hill, you can go from doing nothing to doing everything, all at your own pace. These are some things that can make your stay extra special:
They have a yoga deck (and two yoga mats in each room). If you want a class, they organise a yoga teacher for you!)
Feeling romantic? Why not book a floating breakfast (only available in the big villa) or a flowerbath in your bathtub!
If you have a sweet tooth, the private chef can make you an afternoon tea (YUM!)
They have the BEST massages, at very reasonable prices
Feeling like exploring? Harmony Hill is close to the famous Gunung Kawi temple (my personal favorite in Bali), several hidden waterfalls, and Mount Batur—perfect for a sunrise volcano trek.
Final thoughts
Harmony Hill isn’t about rush or noise. It’s about slowing down, breathing deeper, and reconnecting with nature in a way that feels nourishing and real. For me, it was the perfect reset, surrounded by jungle, plant-based goodness, and heartfelt hospitality.
If you’re looking for a peaceful stay away from the crowds, with sustainability, comfort, and soul at its core, Harmony Hill might just be your next favorite hidden gem in Bali!
